Started off our day at 6:30 am. We walked over to the main homestay and had breakfast. We drove to Old Havana and explored four main squares. For a snack we had Cuban donuts, and proceeded to explode Salvador’s art as well as street performers dancing as Gods. We went to lunch at a well known Cuban restaurant. We had pizza, virgin mojitos, different types of meat and finished with flan. After that we went to the guitar school named clave de sol. They performed many songs for us, and we later danced with them. After that they taught us how to play their instruments and we had a jam session where we played well known songs like Shape of You, Despacito, Bailando, and Thinking Out Loud. They knew very little English and we knew very little Spanish so it was interesting to try to learn from them. We later had free time and got the chance to see each other’s houses and hang out. We wrapped up the day with dinner and sharing our appreciations and goals with one another.
From Maya: Happy birthday, Mom! I love you! Hello friends and family of the Lincoln School program in Cuba,
The group is having a blast in Cuba! They have been exploring Havana's Old Town, studying guitar and percussion, and attended a dance and show with the musical education program Clave de Sol. Everyone is happy, healthy, and enjoying their time in Cuba! More updates will be coming soon. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the WLS office at 303-679-3412 with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued trust and support, The WLS team We have arrived! Never did we think we would be at Lincoln at 3:30am, but sure enough that is how our adventure began. Once we arrived in Havana, we met our gracious homestay families and were greeted by a refreshing afternoon thunderstorm (the loudest thunder we have ever heard!!) Our evening was filled with introductory activities and a delicious meal of pork, rice & beans, Yuca, fish and vegetables made by our fabulous cook Jackie. We went to bed early with bellies full of homemade sweets and dreams of our day in Havana Vieja tomorrow. Everyone is happy and healthy! Stay tuned.
